Overview:
Summary:
Performs advanced patient care procedures (such as, initiation of
intravenous therapy, splinting/casting, suturing, and simple
patient teaching) under the director of a licensed Nurse or
Provider and/or performs advanced support-procedures for the
operation of the Emergency Department. Coordinates equipment and/or
supply systems. Performs sterile processing procedures.

here Responsibilities: Responsibilities:
*Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in
the patient record. Stamps and assembles patient charts. Posts
laboratory and other test results. Transports patients and
documents action on patient record. Monitors patients and collects
information for documentation in patient record. Collects and
records vital signs in patient record. Provides simple patient
teaching and discharge instructions.
*Inserts and removes non-medicated, peripheral intravenous therapy
lines under the direction of a licensed Provider. Performs
phlebotomy. Collects samples from central line catheters. Performs
arterial puncture and blood collection.
*Performs wound care and dressing changes. Prepares patients for
surgery. Inserts and removes gastric and/or urethral tubes.
Performs enemas and disimpactions. Applies plaster and fiberglass
splints, casts and traction devices. Performs bedside testing such
as oximetry, ECG, Glucometery, urinalysis and other tests.
Anesthetizes, scrubs and sutures wounds under the direction of a
licensed Provider.
*Coordinates and maintains specific equipment and/or supply
systems. Coordinates and maintains specific sterile processing
systems.
*Operates patient monitoring systems specific to unit needs (such
as, cardiac and fetal heart monitoring).
*Uses the computerized Patient Care Information System (PACIS) at
the skill level commensurate with the responsibilities included in
this description, as well as that of a Unit Secretary, if
required.
*Ensures cleanliness of nutrition areas and general unit. Cleans
and stores equipment. Empties trash, linen bags and sharps
containers.
*Stocks medical supplies, linens and paper goods. Inventories
equipment as required. Processes broken equipment as directed.
Maintains equipment logs as required.
*Delivers specimens to Laboratory, Microbiology and Pathology.
Transports x-rays, blood and equipment. Performs basic clerical
duties such as answering phones, taking messages, filing and
copying.
*Participates in the nutritional well-being of the patient through
tray delivery, assistance with patient set-up, assists those
patients that are dependent for their intake needs, and accurately
records consumption.
*Administers oxygen under the direction of a licensed Nurse.
Assists Nurses and Providers with sterile procedures. Assists with
activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing, and walking
patients.
*Assists or provides patient hygiene to include, shaving, mouth
care, foot care, pericare, and bathing.
*Assists patients with portable or wall oxygen and assures proper
storage of E cylinders.
*Organizes care in a manner that contributes to the overall quality
of the team.
*Communicates information pertinent to the end of shift summation
before leaving the unit.
*Performs other functions as required/requested.
Qualifications: Other information:
*High school or equivalent plus trade or vocational school in
medical/surgical patient care.
*6 months patient care experience required. One to three years
experience preferred.
*Receives on-the-job training and competency verification to
perform primary functions.
*Microsoft Office Skills
*Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT)
